This webinar is hosted by Prof Aurora Trif, associate professor at the Dublin City University and specialized in comparative employment relations, and counts with important inputs by PhD candidate, Ashling Seely, who is experienced in precarious work in the public sector. Together they provide specific examples on how trade unions can take a pragmatic and proactive approach to tackle precarious working conditions.

Prekäre Beschäftigung und Interessenvertretung
Anna Gallinat, communication project officer at Eurofound, interviews Franz Eiffe, research manager at Eurofound, to explore whether all non-standard forms of employment are precarious. Non-standard forms are more common in lower income groups, and the workers more exposed are those on fixed-term contracts, solo self-employed, and involuntary part-time workers. Furthermore, how is Covid-19 been affecting all these issues, especially in terms of gender equality?

Sind alle Nichtstandard-Beschäftigungsformen prekär
Prof of European Union law at University Paris 1 – Panthéon Sorbonne, Sophie Robin-Olivier, hosts this webinar within the project “Precarious work: empowering trade unions to address new challenges”. Precarious work is not a new phenomenon, but recent evolutions such as digitalisation, gig economy and flexibilisation of work have been posing new challenges. To this end, the current EU directives in place, notably Directive 97/81/EC on part time work, Directive 1999/70/EC on fixed-term work and Directive 2008/104/EC on temporary agency work, are becoming more and more dated.
